Update #3 | Heading to production & thoughts about our neighborhood 🏡

First things first, we hope you've had a solid laugh recently. If not, watch this 😉

We can talk a big bottle game, but now it's time to walk the walk. We jumped the pond over to China this past weekend and want to give you the scoop about what's going down while we're here.

We'll be spending three weeks in Shenzhen working with our manufacturer, where we hope to accomplish three main things:

1️⃣ Get to know the project managers, engineers, and workers bringing MODL to life! After emailing and skyping for the last 10 months, we can't wait to meet them and thank them for their hard work in person.
2️⃣ Review and finalize a series of samples that are being completed this week. These samples will help us figure out which components need more tuning and which are ready for production.
3️⃣ Establish standards and processes with the factory. We need to make sure that our quality assurance team and the factory team are on the same page about quality, performance and environmental standards.

We're gonna do our best to keep you looped in with pics from the factory, a look at the pre-production samples and a sneak peek at the first bottles and MODs to come off the line. Stay tuned for updates on Instagram and Facebook!

Update #2 | Molds almost complete & is climate change really a problem?

Eyyyy yo!

It’s been a wild month on this end of the adventure. Hope you've all been well! 

Molds are the name of the game right now. These are heavy-duty blocks of steel that we will use to create a bunch of MODLs and MODs.

Last month we had shrinkage issues with our samples of the Basic (flat, normal cap) and Rinse MODs. We're excited to say that we made some changes to the molds and the new samples look excellent. 

So the molds for the MODL Bottle and Basic MOD are all set! We're perfecting the samples from the rest of the MOD molds, and once they're looking great we'll move on to production.

To catch any problems early, the whole MODL crew will be on the factory floor for a combination of quality control, product testing and... fun! We're so excited to see MODL spring to life and meet the folks making it happen.

We expect production to begin in late August which means MODL is on track to be in your hands in November. We know… this is a month later than we expected and we’re sorry for that. There were a few hiccups we did not see coming, but on the bright side, we are confident that the MODL that arrives at your door will be fit for any adventure.

BackerKit surveys will lock around October once MODLs are on the way to North America. If you need change your order or update your address, just log back into BackerKit and you are good to go.

In the month since the Kickstarter campaign, we've been diving into your ideas and came away with some takeaways worth sharing: 

• Our backers are adventurers at heart - backpackers, hikers, travelers, bikers, military, and much more. In short, our community is full of peeps down to explore, so versatility and packability were the main reasons why people backed MODL. These are now two pillars of our design philosophy.
• Our backers value the planet and the people living on it as much as we do. You all vibed with our sustainability efforts so we will continue to reimagine how things are done.

And now an update on production... 

We're in the process of creating our production samples and we've hit a bit of a speedbump. For the caps, the samples from our molds showed signs of shrinkage (shown above). This is not a huge issue, however, we need to make sure the product is exactly how we expect before we proceed with the full-scale production run. To fix this, the molds are currently being retooled and should be resolved within the next couple weeks. Unfortunately, we expect this to push back the delivery date into November rather than October. We're sorry about the delay but we want to make sure we get this right for you all. We will keep you updated!

WOW! 

First things first... A huge round of applause to everyone involved in this project! Whether you have been following for a while or are new to the team, we cannot thank you enough for helping launch MODL further than we ever expected.

Over the past couple of weeks, we've seen a community over 1200 strong come together over the passion for adventure, challenging the status quo, and investing in something you feel should exist in the world. Over a year ago, we felt this too, and it sent us on a journey to bring what was just an idea, to life. 

But Kickstarter was just the warm-up. Now that we have your support, it's time to go make some MODLs!!

So what's next?

In two weeks, we will send you a survey to pick your MODL color, add any additional MODLs or MODs, and customize your order to your heart's content. After your final orders are submitted, we will begin the production process and keep you in the loop with the progress. We are all adventurers here and we have a wild trail ahead of us, so let's get excited!

Can you believe it folks?? This month has absolutely rocketed by 🚀 

You're not only here for the ride, you're part of the thrust. We are blown away thinking how far this campaign has gone and having a community come together to make it all possible is incredibly humbling 🙏Thank you 🙏 We are thrilled to take the plunge into the next part of the journey together.
